EXECUTIVE FUNCTION TUTOR AT EF TUTORS:

Hi, I’m Courtney.

I support students through executive function tutoring with a unique blend of structure, curiosity, and compassion.

With over a decade of experience and a background in psychology and biology, I’ve worked with thousands of learners who are bright, capable, and yet deeply stuck. My approach is rooted in curiosity and compassion, meeting students exactly where they are and helping them find their own unique state of flow.

Courtney’s Guiding Principles

I believe the biggest hurdle is just getting started. My approach is about breaking things down, celebrating small wins, and helping your child find a state of flow where challenges feel manageable and progress is always possible.

These four principles are the foundation of my approach:

Meet Students Where They Are

I start by understanding your child's unique goals, struggles, and strengths to build a foundation of trust and create a plan that fits them perfectly.

Overwhelm leads to procrastination. My go-to method is breaking tasks into almost "insultingly small steps" so your child can get started without feeling anxious and building momentum one small action at a time.

Have A "Ta-Da" List

I swear by my "Ta-Da List”, which is a running list of completed tasks. This simple tool reinforces motivation, empowers students to see their own progress, and helps them keep moving forward (even when things feel hard).

Start Messy, Refine Later

I encourage students to "start messy" and get their ideas out without pressure. We can always refine and organize later, but the most important step is simply starting.

HOW I HELP MY STUDENTS NAVIGATE TOUGH SPOTS:

Breaking the Cycle of Panic and Procrastination With Actionable Strategies

One of my students was trapped in a cycle of panic and procrastination, where scrolling TikTok had become an escape from the pressure of unfinished work and rising family tension. Here’s how we turned it around:

Pause For A Reset

Instead of diving into overdue assignments, we paused. We calmly reviewed the school portal, made a manageable list of tasks, and co-created a visual calendar to reduce the feeling of overwhelm.

Built A Toolkit For Action

We practiced short, timed work intervals to rebuild focus. We also created a gameplan for moments of panic and rehearsed transitions between tasks, a skill often overlooked but is crucial for executive functioning.

The Ultimate Goal

The outcome was a dramatic shift in mood, motivation, and confidence. While grades improved, the most important win was the student's restored relationship with their family and a newfound belief in their own ability to manage school.

The Ultimate Goal:

The outcome of these tough moments is a more resilient, independent student. The real win is when they feel confident enough to take initiative on their own, like emailing a teacher or starting a project without a reminder. That shows that they’ve taken ownership of their learning journey.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

"the biggest marker of success is when students feel more confident and more willing to try."

For me, success isn’t just about a better GPA. It’s about helping your child find a state of flow where they feel capable and in control.

Progress is when a student is able to:

  • Stay consistent and motivated through a tough semester
  • Successfully navigate a stressful week without shutting down
  • Feel more confident and willing to try new, challenging tasks

These are the small wins that show a big transformation.

I am someone who is endlessly curious. What starts as a spark of interest often turns into a deep dive. When I’m not tutoring:

My Hobbies:
My most recent deep dive is into bead embroidery. I’m currently dreaming up a handmade wedding dress. We’ll see if it turns out perfect, but I’ll definitely improve along the way!

Fun Fact About Me:

One Bollywood film led me to learn Hindi and I lived in India for six years. I’ve also written a thesis on brain science and South Asian art!
